Adam Smith College, June 2010
The Higher National Certificate Early Education and Childcare course which sits at SCQF level 7 aims to prepare students to become effective practitioners. A range of approaches are taken to delivery including input from staff who reflect on their own experience in early years settings. Many students enter via the NC course which provides a good grounding. In the course of their HNC year they are supported to become more autonomous learners who can reflect on practice. The Graded Unit requires learners to retain, recall and link knowledge and skills covered across the course to produce a quality piece of work for assessment. Key enterprise skills such as communication, time management, research, self esteem, team work, ability to face challenges and problem solve help prepare students for future employment and life.
