Learn how I made a killing teaching ESL abroad and retired early.
After spending a few years in Japan, I was hooked. I knew there was no way I could go back to the US. I searched for jobs nonstop on the internet and would do anything it took to stay abroad. Over time what I found was that one thing is absolutely certain: If you can speak English and you can teach it, you will always be employed. Indefinitely. This job field is going nowhere. English is the language of business and the language of the world in many cases. Unfortunately, there can be a certain stigma that comes along with being a teacher abroad and there are many who will undoubtedly seek to belittle you or discount what you’re doing. As a teacher who made well into the six figures for many years at many different jobs, this is my biggest regret.
